Address: 2401 Ontario Street, Cleveland, OH 44115

History

Progressive Field opened on April 4, 1994, as Jacobs Field, named for brothers David and Richard Jacobs, who had bought the Cleveland franchise in 1985. Voters approved funding in May 1990, and construction began in 1992 as part of the Gateway urban-renewal project. Architects gave the park an exposed steel structure meant to recall Cleveland's bridges and smokestacks. Affectionately nicknamed "The Jake," the park became famous for a sellout streak of 455 consecutive games from 1995 to 2001, later honored by retiring the number 455. Progressive Insurance bought naming rights in 2008. Major renovations from 2014 to 2016 opened up the concourses, and a later multiyear modernization carried upgrades through 2026.

The Ballpark Experience

Progressive Field blends an industrial cityscape with intimate sightlines and downtown skyline views. The standout quirk is the 19-foot left-field wall, a tall barrier nicknamed the "Mini Green Monster." Heritage Park, tucked beyond center field, celebrates franchise history with statues of legends including Bob Feller and Jim Thome. The renovated open main concourse keeps fans connected to the field, and a two-story corner bar pours dozens of draft beers. The Blue Moon Terrace Garden, a rooftop patio in left field opened in 2024, adds skyline views. The rowdiest fans tend to gather in the left-field bleachers.

Food & Drink

Cleveland's food scene shows up strongly here, headlined by Happy Dog's hot dogs with unconventional toppings and Melt Bar and Grilled's overstuffed grilled cheese sandwiches. Burgers Loaded offers burgers with an extensive toppings list, while corner bars pour an extensive selection of draft beers.
