Arizona Diamondbacks · Phoenix
Chase Field is the climate-controlled downtown Phoenix home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, built with a retractable roof to make summer baseball bearable in the desert. It is best known for its swimming pool beyond the right-field fence and its air-conditioned comfort.
Address: 401 East Jefferson Street, Phoenix, AZ 85004
When Phoenix landed an expansion franchise for the 1998 season, brutal desert heat made an open-air ballpark impractical, so the Diamondbacks built a venue with a retractable roof — the first such roof in the United States paired with a natural grass field. It opened in 1998 as Bank One Ballpark, nicknamed "the BOB," and was renamed Chase Field in 2005. The building announced itself quickly: in only the franchise's fourth season, it hosted the dramatic 2001 World Series. The natural grass gave way to synthetic turf in 2019. Chase Field later staged the 2023 World Series, and ahead of the 2026 season it received major technology upgrades, including a far larger center-field video board.
Chase Field's calling card is the unusual swimming pool and hot tub suite tucked behind the right-center-field fence, a rentable group space where the occasional home run ball splashes down. The roof, which opens or closes in roughly five minutes, means games are comfortable even when Phoenix bakes outside. Sightlines are wide and the seating bowl is expansive. For 2026 the team installed a roughly 9,600-square-foot center-field scoreboard along with new ribbon boards and a concert-grade sound system.
Chase Field made its culinary name with the Churro Dog — a cinnamon churro nestled in a long donut bun with ice cream, chocolate and whipped cream. The ballpark also leans into Southwestern flavors with the bacon-wrapped Sonoran hot dog, loaded with pinto beans and pico de gallo.
Chase Field sits in downtown Phoenix near the Jefferson/1st Avenue light-rail stop, making the Valley Metro line an easy car-free option. Because the roof keeps the interior cool, any seat stays comfortable, but the lower level along the baselines puts you closest to the action. Group visitors can rent the pool area itself for a memorable outing.
