For her Houston Cowboy Carter homecoming, Beyonce ordered $1,000 of off-menu Southern food from downtown's Taste Kitchen + Bar.
During the Cowboy Carter Tour's Houston run, Beyonce's team placed a roughly $1,000 pickup order from Taste Kitchen + Bar, the Black-owned soul-food restaurant at 420 Main Street downtown owned by chef Don Bowie. The off-menu spread included jerk lamb chops, deep-fried lobster, chicken and waffles, lobster mac and cheese, a 'Taste of New Orleans' platter, yams, garlic mashed potatoes, braised collard greens, whiskey butter cake, cheesecake and deep-fried waffle bread pudding. Jay-Z - who reportedly hadn't eaten pork in years - made an exception, telling the chef, 'I was not even mad, that is how good that s--t was.' Beyonce's cousin, singer Angie Beyince, posted a video of the spread on Instagram, calling it 'the first taste of Houston we had on the Cowboy Carter Tour.' For Houston's Black-owned restaurant scene, the cosign was the moment of the tour.
