Idris Elba grew up in Hackney and built his Hollywood career across Luther, Pacific Rim and The Wire, but he kept his music habit alive as 'Big Driis' the DJ. In 2021 he opened Porte Noire, the wine bar and restaurant inside King's Cross's restored Gasholders building, co-owned with David Farber and named after his champagne brand launched in 2020. The 70-seat dining room overlooks Regent's Canal; the tasting room is one of the largest fine-wine cellars in London, stocked with around 800 bottles. In 2024 the restaurant earned two AA Rosettes for culinary excellence. For fans following Elba's London DJ residencies (KOKO, Night Tales, his Defected sets), Porte Noire is the only restaurant in the city he actually owns, name-checked in trade press from Time Out to the Morning Advertiser as his post-set hangout.
