About San Diego Comic-Con 2026

San Diego Comic-Con 2026 runs Thursday, July 23 through Sunday, July 26 at the San Diego Convention Center, with Preview Night on Wednesday, July 22. It is the largest convention of its kind in the world — roughly 130,000 attendees fill the Marina-district halls and spill across the Gaslamp Quarter.

The center of gravity is Hall H, the 6,100-seat room where film and TV studios stage their biggest reveals. Marvel Studios is confirmed to return to Hall H in 2026 around Avengers: Doomsday, traditionally in the Saturday-night slot. Ballroom 20 carries the marquee TV panels, and 17-plus rooms run comics, anime and creator programming start to finish.

Comic-Con is famously hard to get into — 2026 attendee badges are already sold out, and the hotel sale is so notorious attendees call it “Hotelpocalypse.” If you hold a badge, the trip is all strategy: the Hall H line, the free Gaslamp offsite activations, and pacing four very long days. Below are the hotels, bars and restaurants Comic-Con attendees actually use.

Venue: San Diego Convention Center

The San Diego Convention Center opened in 1989 in the downtown Marina district, steps from the Gaslamp Quarter. Its ~2.6M sq ft and signature Sails Pavilion host San Diego Comic-Con, including the 6,100-seat Hall H.

San Diego Comic-Con 2026 Weekend Planning Blueprint

Comic-Con runs on logistics. Here is how attendees actually survive — and enjoy — four days.

  1. Lock lodging a year out. Downtown rooms vanish in the “Hotelpocalypse” sale. The closer to the Convention Center you stay, the better the trip works — you will be coming back to drop bags and recharge.
  2. Pick your Hall H battle. You cannot do everything. Choose the one or two panels worth lining up for, accept the wait, and keep the rest of the day flexible.
  3. Work the Gaslamp offsites. The studio activations, pop-ups and themed bars across the Gaslamp Quarter are free, badge-optional, and some of the best of Comic-Con. Build them into your downtime.
  4. Take the trolley, not a car. The MTS Trolley stops right at the Convention Center; downtown parking during the con is a trap. Comic-Con also runs free shuttles for badge holders.
  5. Pace for the long game. Four days on concrete is a marathon — sit-down meals, water and a real breakfast in the Gaslamp keep you upright through Saturday.

Who This Event Fits Best

Comic-Con is many conventions stacked into one. Here is who it rewards most.

  • The Hall H pilgrim. If your dream is being in the room for a surprise cast reveal or a first trailer, this is the only place on earth that delivers it — just know the line can start the night before.
  • The cosplayer and offsite explorer. Half of Comic-Con happens outside the hall: free studio activations take over the Gaslamp Quarter and the cosplay is a show in itself. You do not even need a badge for a lot of it.
  • The comics and collectibles devotee. Under the movie spectacle this is still a comics show — the Eisner Awards, creator Spotlights, exclusive collectibles and Artists’ Alley. 2026 Special Guests include Frank Miller.
  • Maybe sit this one out if… you do not already have a badge and a hotel. Both sell out months ahead; without them, 2026 is a spectate-from-the-Gaslamp trip, and 2027 badges go on sale in fall 2026.
