Angel Stadium of Anaheim is the home of the Los Angeles Angels and one of the oldest active ballparks in Major League Baseball. It is recognizable for the towering "Big A" sign and the rock-and-waterfall display behind the outfield fence.

Address: 2000 East Gene Autry Way, Anaheim, CA 92806

History

Ground was broken in 1964, and the ballpark opened in April 1966 as Anaheim Stadium when the Angels moved from Los Angeles. The original three-tier ballpark was built near Disneyland and major freeways. When the NFL's Rams became tenants in 1980, the stadium was expanded into a fully enclosed configuration with roughly 23,000 added seats. After the Rams left, a Disney-led renovation in the mid-1990s demolished the outfield seating, returned the venue to a baseball-only design and added outfield landscaping. It reopened in 1998 before being renamed Angel Stadium in 2003.

The Ballpark Experience

The signature feature is the "California Spectacular" behind the left-center field fence, an artificial rock formation with real trees, erupting geysers and a cascading stream, with fireworks launched at the first pitch and after every Angels home run and win. Beyond the fence stands the 230-foot "Big A," a longtime Southern California landmark. The main entrance is framed by two oversized Angels caps. A surrounding plaza holds statues honoring former owner Gene Autry and a regulation brick infield engraved with Opening Day lineups.

Food & Drink

Ballpark fare leans on Southern California staples, with grilled items, tacos and burgers among the offerings, alongside the traditional hot dogs and peanuts. Halo-themed concessions and local food vendors round out the menu.

Visiting Tips

The ballpark sits between several freeways with large parking lots, and a nearby Metrolink and Amtrak station offers a rail option on game days. Seats in left-center field give the best view of the rock formation and fireworks. The brick infield and statues outside the home plate gate are worth arriving early to see. Summer evenings are pleasant.

Famous Moments

  • 1967 — The ballpark hosted the All-Star Game, the first played at night since World War II.
  • 2002 — The Angels won the World Series here over the San Francisco Giants, the franchise's first championship.
  • 2010 — Anaheim hosted the All-Star Game for the third time.
  • 2014 — Albert Pujols ended a 19-inning marathon against Boston, the longest game in stadium history.
