History

For its first two decades, the Marlins franchise shared a football-first stadium in Miami Gardens, where heat and storms hampered the fan experience. The club selected the demolished Orange Bowl grounds in Little Havana for a dedicated, weatherproof ballpark. After contentious public-funding debates, it opened in 2012 as Marlins Park, marking the franchise's rebrand to the Miami Marlins. Rejecting the retro trend, designers delivered a bold contemporary venue full of Miami color, glass and art, and it became the first MLB stadium to earn LEED Gold certification. In 2021 the Marlins sold naming rights to mortgage lender loanDepot.

The Ballpark Experience

The defining feature is the giant retractable roof, which keeps games comfortable in any weather, paired with retractable glass panels behind left field that frame the downtown Miami skyline. The interior leans into Miami's identity with pastel tones, vivid artwork and a lively, music-heavy atmosphere. Because capacity is modest, sightlines are intimate and few seats feel distant. A pre-game plaza gives fans space to gather outside, and the field-level Dugout Club offers an upscale option. The Red Grooms home run sculpture, an original fixture, was relocated outside the stadium.

Food & Drink

The ballpark celebrates Miami's Cuban roots: La Cocina serves Caribbean-inspired plates including the oversized Cubano Gigante, while the Taste of Miami area offers Cuban sandwiches, empanadas, ceviche and Cuban coffee.

Visiting Tips

With the roof typically closed, weather is rarely a concern, but on open-roof days the back rows along the first-base line provide shade. Field-level seats earn praise, and the Dugout Club adds bar access. Driving is common; the ballpark has multiple garages, and pre-purchasing parking is advised, though rideshare is convenient given the Little Havana location away from rail transit.
